A Fixture on Lake Hopatcong, For Generations
Long before it was a wedding venue or a dinner reservation, The Jefferson House opened its doors in 1941 — quickly becoming one of the lake's finest spots for dining and dancing, and later home to Broadway musicals and the tiki bar that made Nolan's Point famous.
Today, eighty-five years on, that same shoreline welcomes a new generation of guests, with the marina, the dining room, and the grounds restored.

A Waterfront Landmark
Situated at 139 Nolans Point Road, The Jefferson House sits on one of the most storied stretches of shoreline on Lake Hopatcong — New Jersey's largest lake, and for well over a century a summer destination for boaters and travelers arriving by water. A hotel has stood on this shoreline since 1926 — 100 years in 2026 — and The Jefferson House has called it home since 1941.
What began as a shoreline gathering place has been carried forward into a full waterfront destination — dining room, marina, event lawn, and ceremony sites — while keeping the same welcome that made this stretch of the lake a landmark to begin with.
The Jefferson House Story
A Lakefront Beginning
Lake Hopatcong's tourist boom took off in the 1880s, when excursion trains began bringing visitors straight to Nolan's Point. A lakeside pavilion rose to meet them — dancing, boating, and a soda fountain on the water's edge — the first chapter of a shoreline gathering place that would change names and hands several times before becoming The Jefferson House.
The Jefferson House Opens
Rebranded and reopened as The Jefferson House, quickly known as one of the lake's finest spots for dining and dancing. The wraparound porches and lakeside dining room drew Hopatcong's summer crowd for decades to come.
The Boatel Years
New ownership reimagines the property as the "Jefferson House Boatel," staging live Broadway musicals for lake guests through the mid-1960s. The Marine Room and Anchor Room hosted Saturday-night dancing, catered parties, and year-round boat storage for guests who arrived by water.
The Orth Family
The Orth family begins more than fifty years of stewardship, growing the property into the largest gathering venue on Lake Hopatcong and building the tiki bar tradition guests still talk about. Docks, dining rooms, and a banquet hall expanded gradually across the shoreline over the decades that followed.
The Jefferson House
We're restoring the dock, the ballroom, and the view for a new generation of guests. A new season begins with fresh dining, refreshed event spaces, and the same waterfront welcome that's defined this address for a century. Same name, same shoreline, next chapter.

Sunset Happy Hour Wed–Fri, 4–6PM
Join us at the Tiki Bar or bar area as the sun sets over Lake Hopatcong for select drink specials Wednesday through Friday, 4–6PM. Ask your server for the day's offers.
Menu items and pricing are subject to change. Maximum of two separate checks per table; 20% gratuity may be added for parties of 6 or more.
